Made in Bristol

Memorial Military Museum

Bristol Sports Hall of Fame
Winter Hours

Winter Hours are by appointment. Please also note that the galleries are always open before and following an event at the Historical Society. Groups may call the office at 860-583-6309 to schedule a tour.

The Made In Bristol exhibit features some of the hundreds of products produced in Bristol through out its history and some of the companies that made them. Many of us are aware of our clock making and ball bearing manufacturing history. Did you know fishing rods and golf clubs were made in Bristol? What about springs, scissors and melodeons? What is a melodeon exactly? Stop by Bristol Historical Society to see this wonderful exhibit.

The Memorial Military Museum, Inc. reopened in its new location at the Historical Society in time for the community's commemoration of the World War I Battle of Seicheprey in April 2008. The battle was the Baptism of fire for Bristol's own Company D, 102nd Infantry, 26th "Yankee" Division. Eight Bristol men were killed in action, the largest loss of life in a single battle in the military history of Bristol. The public is invited to stop in and see the pieces of history including uniforms, weapons, letters, photographs and captured German military items. Of special interest is a series of correspondence from Historical Society member Bob Kelly. Kelly's uncle, William O'Sullivan, was reported as killed in action but actually survived the Battle, a fact which his family was informed of months later. The Bristol Sports Hall of Fame Bristol has long enjoyed a rich history in sports. It's founding fathers ensured that sports would always be an integral part of Bristol's way of life by donating land for parks and foundations to support them. Since the 1800's, Bristol's industries have supported athletic competition and have sponsored many sports teams. As a result, Bristol has been endowed with a rich sports history that has become part of the fabric of our everyday lives. These Industrial leagues, Bristol school leagues, little leagues, church leagues and private clubs are in some way part of our every day lives. Our mission: "To permanently honor, document and preserve distinctive contributions and achievements to the sports heritage of Bristol".
